Effective psychological therapy involves a unique relationship between the therapist and the client that is very different from other supportive roles. It is a way of empowering you to explore, understand and resolve your personal, emotional and practical problems in both a safe and caring environment which offers you time and space to work through your difficulties. The aim is to help you clarify your thoughts, and deal with any painful feelings. Psychological therapy offers a non-judgemental relationship, which encompasses confidentiality, honesty and empathic listening.

Therapy can help you deal with such difficulties as: life or career changes, relationship problems, coping with loss or bereavement, stress, anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, identity confusion, feelings of powerlessness, anger or suicidal thoughts. It can also be helpful for those with a history of physical, mental or sexual abuse, or for those who have suffered some kind of trauma. Therapy can often be useful with issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), or for those that find it difficult to form satisfactory connections or relationships with others. It can also help the people around us to understand a family member or loved one that may have neurological diversity i.e autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) Aspergers.

At South West Psychotherapy our therapists adopt an integrative approach within our therapy practice as well as in our supervision. Integrative therapy aims to bring different therapeutic models, methods and philosophies together in a principled way. Studies have shown no individual therapy to be any more effective than any other; and by tailoring each and every clients individual therapy to that specific individual, we take the best from a wide range of therapies relevant to that particular client at that particular time.
An integrative approach may use aspects of Relational Psychodynamics, Humanistic (person centred) or Existential therapies; Inner Child Work, Internal Family Systems (IFS) as well as aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Transactional Analysis, Creative Therapy and the practice of Mindfulness techniques.

One of the hardest things for a person to do is admit they have a problem and need help; the fact that you are reading this now means that you are already considering seeking help which is a huge step in facing up to, processing and overcoming whichever personal issues have brought you here today.

People who undertake therapy often report significant improvements in the quality of their relationships, increased confidence and a growing ability to take risks and make positive changes in their lives.

If you have any questions, then please feel free to contact us in the strictest confidence, and without obligation.
